Tizmoret Shoshana is a summer camp dedicated to the creative arts. Orthodox Jewish girls finishing 5th through 11th grades attend camp to pursue their artistic interests, develop their talents, make new friends, and experience a summer of growth and friendship.

At Tizmoret Shoshana, everything we do is guided by the Torah. We aren’t an arts camp that happens to be Jewish. We are a camp that integrates Yiddishkeit and the arts, teaching campers to celebrate the many ways they can use their talents to serve HaShem.

Our Mission

What to expect at camp

A Tizmoret Timeline

  • Each Sunday in the living room, Dr. Singer teaches violin and viola, and Mrs. Singer teaches painting to local Baltimore girls.

The Singers decide to continue into the summer, forming a camp that would soon become the first Jewish arts camp for Orthodox girls in the United States.

  • Sadly, shiur instructor Rebbetzin Shoshana Feldman passes away from cancer. Tizmoret Shoshana is named in her memory.

Rebbetzin Feldman was a brilliant Torah scholar, dynamic speaker, and accomplished pianist. Her leadership, insight, and creativity inspired Tizmoret Shoshana and all who were blessed to know her.

  • Throughout the early years, the Singers hire additional instructors in writing, vocal music, dance, and drama. These additional art forms develop into full-fledged majors.

  • Drama instructor Jessica Schechter joins the Tizmoret Shoshana team and leads the first Collaboration and the first Shmalent Toe. Campers love the performances, which are brought back year after year.

  • In the face of COVID-19, our oldest campers band together to create Tizmoret Online, complete with all the usual activities and a robust guest artist program.

  • Canadian musicians Dr. Ben and Mrs. Jane Gitter assume the directorship while the Singers stay on in an advisory role. 2023 marks the Singers’ last year at Tizmoret before they make aliyah in 2024.

  • Evening Minors are added, giving campers the opportunity to explore a third art form. Visual Art is split into two divisions: Arts & Crafts and Fine Art.

  • Majors continue in the mornings, and minors are replaced by electives. Campers can choose four electives per week in arts areas, shiur, or boating/swimming.

  • For the first time in Tizmoret Shoshana’s history, camp runs for TWO sessions, spanning seven weeks.

  • After many requests, a new major in Textile Arts is introduced.
