Tizmoret Shoshana is a summer camp that takes place in a safe, kosher, Jewish environment, where innovation, collaboration, and interdisciplinary dialogue are encouraged.

Our mission is to foster and encourage a passion for music and the arts as a way of serving our Creator, through nurturing of self-expression, development of artistic skills, and modeling what it means to be a woman, a Jew, and an artist.

Our Mission

A Tizmoret Timeline

  • Each Sunday in the living room, Dr. Singer teaches violin and viola, and Mrs. Singer teaches painting to local Baltimore girls.

The Singers decide to continue into the summer, forming a camp that would soon become the first Jewish arts camp in the United States.

  • Tragedy strikes when shiur instructor Rebbetzin Shoshana Feldman passes away from cancer. Tizmoret Shoshana is named in her memory.

Rebbetzin Feldman was a brilliant Torah scholar, dynamic speaker, and accomplished pianist. Her leadership, insight, and creativity inspired Tizmoret Shoshana and all who were blessed to know her.

  • Throughout the early years, the Singers hire additional instructors in writing, vocal music, dance, and drama. These additional art forms develop into full-fledged majors and minors.

  • Drama instructor Jessica Schechter joins the Tizmoret Shoshana team and leads the first Collaboration and the first Shmalent Toe. Campers love the performances, which are brought back year after year.

  • Tizmoret Shoshana moves locations, from Capital Camps, to Berkshire Hills Eisenberg, then back to Capital Camps again!

  • The Singers formalize the long tradition of empowering campers by creating the Emerging Artists program. This provides more opportunities for our oldest campers to assume leadership positions and work on special projects at camp, fulfilling Tizmoret Shoshana’s mission to mold the next generation of Torah artists and innovators.

  • In the face of COVID-19, our oldest campers band together to create Tizmoret Online, complete with all the usual activities and a robust guest artist program.

  • Canadian musicians Dr. Ben and Mrs. Jane Gitter assume the directorship while the Singers stay on in an advisory role.
